Cold-gas nozzle test stand


The mission: design, build, and operate a nozzle test stand under strict time and budget constraints to fulfill the requirements of the senior capstone class. My team and I made a simple and effective setup that used pressurized air as the working fluid. Our nozzle designs were printed from ABS plastic and were connected to our setup with a four-bolt flange and gasket interface, allowing for easy removal and replacement. We collected and processed data from eight pressure transducers connected to our nozzles via capilary tubes. A schlieren imaging setup was also used to visualize the shock diamonds in the supersonic nozzle exhaust. I presented our work at the 2018 IAC in Bremen, Germany.
